"When all things are equal, translucence in writing is more effective than transparency, just as glow is more revealing than glare."

--James Thurber

Weather: Wonderful 80° Fahrenheit (27° - 30° C) days through June the 28th... 90°'s the 29th.

My wife Gail has gone to Arizona to visit her sister over the July 4th holiday... and a bit more. My grandson David, Gail's mother, and another sister of Gail's will accompany her as they drive a rental car down there. They're going to watch fireworks over London Bridge... yes, the real London Bridge on the 4th, and then visit the Grand Canyon on another day trip.

June 30 has Garden Valley in the mid-90°'s Fahrenheit... with Sacramento making its first foray into the 100°'s this year.

Mid-90°'s through the 2nd of July... then into the low 100°'s Fahrenheit (37.7°C) for Garden Valley's first forays into the three digit zone. Gorgeous upper 80°/low 90° days on the 5th and 6th with baby's-breath breezes.

Jack Kilby has passed away.

I took the word 'translucence' from the above to search for a quote (see quote above) in the database at www.greatest-quotations.com/ where I generally indulge my quotation whims by word or author. Maybe I'll use these words in recombination like the "Poetry in Motion" contest for a poem.
* Note: I didn't bother reading the emails.

The van... new tires all the way around for less than $200.00 USD (couldn't wait any longer). Damage to passenger door while backing up, with door open, into another car (parked)... have to bungee cord the door to keep it closed until repaired... Need brakes and coolant leak fixed and shoulder harness 'track' repaired... sigh.

Cool! Viewed a "shooting star" the night of July 5th tracing quite an arc over the Sierra's towards Lake Tahoe.

"Dark horse" London, England, wins the Summer 2012 Olympics bid over prohibitive favorite Paris, France, possibly due to a disparaging remark by the President of France over British cuisine and Mad Cow disease. Guess the French will have 7-years to come up with a haute cuisine answer for crow: let's see... four and twenty "blackbirds" baked in a puff pastry with Paté de fois gras?

Note: "Paté de Fois Gras" Obscuræ

... and further Obscuræ: Something lost in translation? Compare the two web pages (I almost 'said' Google pages!!!)... from "The Barge Company" on food and wine:

I experienced a good jolt on the Sabbath, June 26, 2005: a magnitude 4.8 earthquake 10 km (5 miles) ESE of Truckee, California (pop 13,000) has occurred at: 39.31N 120.07W Depth 7km Sun Jun 26 18:45:57 2005 UTC... perhaps 55 miles (88.5 km) away, while in church. The Earthquake prediction map for the area appears to have increased in probability for more quake activity.

Shake me!!!... USGS Earthquake Hazards Program... recent earthquake activity around the world.

Lamentation

Mourning seasons lost

Leaf forborne an hoary oak

Laments the acorn

" Lamentation " a Haiku: ... The photo for inspiration was a repeat offering of a blackened-bark oak tree bereft of leaves amidst a spring glory of renewal for all else. Perhaps a bit better than my last attempt?

Goom bye !!!
