" Straight as a rock "
--Debi Pierson 11-29-2003

WHAT A TURKEY DAY !!!

Called home on Turkey Day and everyone's sick. Gail's still frustrated with her learning disks. Situation normal...

Randomizing: Football, " friends ", shrimp dip, cheesy bread, box-o-wine, brindle greyhound, giblet gravy, (14) for dinner at Debi's, pictures... Boob ? Woody ?, Sasha-Peg-John, Nina-Matthew, brother Jim, [whispering: it's in the water ! ], garage sale at Peg's, pizza, opossum, Debi's neighbor Dottie: Red Lobster celebrating Amie's birthday ( my niece - Debi's younger daughter ) for Dec. 2, my granddaughter Ashley's B'day Sunday the 30th ( (3) years old !!! ),Walmart, Home Depot, Gail's new computer, " Sierra Nevada Pale Ale ".

Visit with my nephew Matthew ( Matt ) Willis... beautiful family, had a very nice visit with Matt and his wife, Nina ( pronounced 'Neena' ), and three children: Marissa (2), Daniel (5), and baby Alex (9) months old. To my eye: Matt is the spitting image of my grandfather John Nichols ( his great-grandfather )... more than anyone else in the family !

The plan is to drop Mom off at Sac Int'l airport and then swoop up to Newcastle and meet my wife Gail... to drop me off with her; and for sisters Peg and Debi to go back home to Modesto from there. Mom will connect with my brother
Robin at Sea-Tac Int'l airport for her visit with the Northwestern part of the family before continuing home to Anchorage in about a week.

Phew ! This visit has gone by so quickly ! Wonderful visits with the entire family down here in the valley(s). Thank you all for your generousity and hospitality !!!!!!

;)

Adieu !

" You can't choose your family. "
--( have to research who said this sometime )
... but then my life's enriched by mine !!!
--Bobby Nichols

I'm on vacation !?! Having a great time. Eating and drinking " high on the hog ". Great company this family of mine.

Sunday Gail and her parents had dropped me off at Sacramento International Airport at about 4:45 p.m. PST to await my Mother's flight expected at 6:30 p.m. PST. My sister Debi and her daughter Amie arrived about (5) seconds after 6:00 p.m. PST... yes, I was studying the airport clock !!! After some time, and some more time... and even some more time, Mom's flight came in at 11:00 p.m. PST. Mechanical failure and God knows what made her miss her connecting flight and she left Sea-Tac Int'l. at about 9:30 p.m. PST. Communication was poor on what was going on at the time, but Debi managed to find someone who finally didn't " have their head up their place where the sun don't shine ". About (8)ish the three of us retired to the bar for libations and a football game/sports TV viewing to while the time away. We " closed " the bar down at 11:00 p.m. PST and went back to the terminal for the last 30 minutes or so.

Family I'm visiting: Debi and Mike ( staying at their home in Modesto ), Mom, Peggy and Sasha ( haven't seen John yet ), Ale, Mandy and Mike, Amie and john, Anthony, KayLee, Shianne, and Deb's three dogs.

Gail having difficulty at home with new instruction CD's for her vocational rehab... may be over my head too from what's she's intimated over the phone. Home... situation normal...

Random stuff: chicken and dumplings !!!!!!!!, stir fry with fillet mignons !!!!!!!?!!!!, stingers, Grand Marnier, Dos XX and chili rellianos and chips and salsa at La Hacienda's in Modesto !!!, bacon and eggs with biscuits and gravy !!!, lamb with mint sauce !!! ( tonight ), parsnips ( gag ! ), German white table wine, Autumn leaves gathering with KayLee and Shianne and Mom, me pushing KayLee and Shianne in a modified grocery cart in Raley's Supermarket up and down and down and up isle after isle with the two kids giggling and laughing throughout, Mom and Debi playing with the auto detect water and towel dispensers, me playing with an auto detect towel dispensers, Amie playing with auto detect towel dispensers, stories about gay bars... and Dad, etc... Much fun !

" If you are lonely when you are alone, you are in bad company. "
-- Jean-Paul Sartre French writer and philosopher 1905-1980

No snow... yet. Soon ??? My brother Robin emailed a picture of his home, near Seattle, with snow about. Blue skies again today, but very cold for fall.

Preparing for Sunday for my visit with Mom and the sisters, et al. Making a list and checking it twice. Looking forward to some time away. Hope there is no delay from the weather up north for Mom's flight(s).

Attempted some more household repairs with ludicrous results...

Initialized my thumb drive and loaded some aps into it.

Uploaded some pics to the family website ( sorry - password needed ).

Chrissy and Richard ( daughter and son-in-law ) rented/bought " Santa Clause 2 " on DVD... Gail and I, and Richard and Chrissy and David ( grandson )and Ashley ( granddaughter ) all watched. Not as good as the first movie, but still fun.

Time for bed... and it's cold.

A hui hou aku !

" Cats and music are the antidotes to life's miseries "
--Albert Schweitzer

No snow... yet. Soon ? The weather was very sunny ! with the clouds piling up against the Sierras. Coming back from Sacramento Gail and I could see snow dusting the higher mountains.

Our cat " Roo " ( AKA " Spice " ) died. He was about 15 years old and in ill health. The " story " is somehow " Roo " managed to get in the way of my in-law's dog, " Sky "( AKA " Boing " or " Boing-Boing " ), an Alaskan Husky, as they were trying to walk the dog on a leash. Gail and I discovered him near death when we arrived home - " Roo " unattended and not able to move much. Gail, who had raised him since he was a kitten found near Mission Peak in Fremont, CA, broke down into tears and sobs. David, my (7) year old grandson, who was with Gail's stallion, " Saudi ", came by shortly thereafter and broke down a bit, crying, upon seeing the poor kitty. " Roo " passed quickly and we buried him at the base of our French Plum tree... flowers to be planted about his resting place.

No snow... yet. Soon. Overcast and quite cool.

I've been neglecting to mention the absolute gorgeous colours the variety of trees are displaying that Gail and I have seen from up here in the Sierra foothills all the way down to the environs of Sacramento. It's breathtaking to see a stand of diverse trees in the sunshine contrasting with each other in their hues of gold, orange, red, green, yellow, purple... and everything in between.

Feeling a bit better. My body still feels quite lethargic, but the cough and sore throat are a thing of the past.

At 1:00 a.m. PST Gail decided to go outdoors to check on laundry in the laundry shed. Comes back into the house... and the door will not stay closed ? Jury-rigged a temporary fix.

New door knobs for the front house entrance and main bathroom, misc hardware, and weather stripping and caulking... $50 USD.

Went to use my electric drill to facilitate repairs... the last person to borrow the drill neglected to tell me they had broken it... nice !

                  AND
" See, the problem is that God gives men a brain and a penis, and only enough blood to run one at a time. "
Robin Williams, comedian and actor (1951 - ) [ 1st quote from " Good Will Hunting " ]

Today would have been (28) years married with Gail... had we not parted ways for (10+) years before we re-married. I guess that means today is the (28)th anniversary of the day   we first married... or something. Celebrated in high style ( for us )... " Denny's " for breakfast and " KFC " for lunch/dinner, crowned off with a store bought carrot cake at home with milk.

Looked at computers for Gail to start her rehab training with. Went to the Gateway store in Sacramento and looked at a P4 2.5 GHz box and then over to Circuit City and looked at an eMachines Athlon XP 2800+ box.

Gateway P4 2.5 GHz 256 MB ram 40 GB HD 24x10x24x CDRW 8x DVD 17" CRT

eMachinesAthlonXP 2800+ 512 MB ram 120 GB HD 48x16x48x CDRW 16x DVD None???

... both come in at around $ 800- $900 USD with full warranties and WinXP Home. I'm going to double check on the eMachine's monitor... may be mistaken, I hope.

Fed horses rather late... after dark.

Make that (11) puppies... two poor pups of (13) didn't survive. My in-laws are rotating two shifts of puppies for suckling with momma Cheyenne.

My brother Jim called twice yesterday, both times either Gail or I was online so he could only leave a message on CallWave. Said he was going to call back and not to call him... but I guess he gave up.

Mom called me tonight. She told me she had tried to email a Birthday greeting card yesterday, but couldn't get Earthlink and/or her Mac to cooperate. She'll be " down " this Sunday from Alaska. Looking forward to a long visit with her at my sister Debi's.

My sister Debi did send me a Hallmark eGreeting card that I read first thing this morning from yesterday. I would have read it yesterday, but I was feeling " under the weather " and just generally rested.

Another Brouhaha on Da Boards... sheeeeeesh ! Just peeked this morning to see what's up and see what I had missed yesterday to find one of the mainstays on the main CFH board had been "inadvertently banned". For " Pete's " sake ! literally. Will check back in for a quick session on Da Boards later.

We may get our first snow tonight or tomorrow. Snow fore-casted down to 2000 feet ( 609 meters ) and we're about 2300 feet ( about 700 meters ). If we do... it should really fire up the grandkids to go out and play. David's school is even at a higher elevation !

Gero arte !

" No man is an Island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee. Above link is in reference to [ a link I added to the sidebar... ] I just found it amusing as it ties in my curiosity about the physical world, pop culture, and geography ( Timbuctu, Mali ) , and tech.

I used various permutations of " ACDC " for the hex code to define the font colors... my apologies if they're not browser safe... but then I never check anyway, LOL !!!

The rain is getting on their nerves too, it seems. Figaro leaves, prior to Missy exploring my haunt, T-D takes place on top of the monitor. Missy leaves. The last surviving kitten still missing after 3-days

Hhoorzzzies: enough hay to feed today, shant need to water... the rain is taking care of that ! Tara, EEyore ( donkey ), and Saudi probably not too thrilled, overall with the drizzle.

" Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. "
Translation:
" Therefore, whoever wishes for peace, let him prepare for war. "

Woke up with cramp in leg that wouldn't go away for the longest time... probably too much coffee... not enough water. Problems getting any sleep at all between the grandkids screaming and Gail's dogs going berserk and being congested with the apnia mask... why even bother until I can't stop from nodding off from exhaustion.

Da Boards... normality settling in, temporarily if I know Da Boards. I kind'a have a feeling... nahhhhhhhhh !

Cold getting worse.

Whether the Weather: Tuesday: Beautiful sunny day...

Played some baseball with grandson David... at 7 years old, he swings a mean bat. I let him hit ( as I pitched ) up hill so's not to have to chase his smashes too far. Still, with my cold and all he wore me out after about an hour, each of the two times we went out.

Still some apples on the trees ! Most, unfortunately, pecked here and there by the birds. Plums have been gone for a while.

Noticed a large pool of fluid near Gail's front driver-side tire. Hole in transmission pan (?). " It's always something... " --Roseanne Rosannadanna

I'm still shook up a bit about the suicide note on a BLOG I came across on Da Boards the other day where the author, previously, had promoted his site. Don't wish to speculate further.

There's a HUGE orange full moon rising in the east above the Sierra's... beautiful !

and oldy but a goodie ( as told to me by Ron Simrin circa 1979 ) ...

A little boy on Halloween goes up to my door dressed in costume... tricorn hat and eye patch.

I open the door and he shouts " Twick oh tweet !!! "

I asked him what he was supposed to be and he replies... " A Pywittt !!! "

Noting he's all alone I asked him where his buccaneers are.

He stared crossly and answered " theya' unda my buckin' hat ! "

Hoist the main sail ! and strike the Jolly Roger !
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!

Shaved a fews months growth of beard completely off... left moustache pretty much alone. The arrival of cold weather is now even more evident on my bare face.

Finished books - Saberhagen: "Berserker Kill" and "Berserker Fury". Still gleaning info from "HTML & Web Design"... a great resource for web creators.

Called Mom and had a nice chat. Bob bought her a new digital camera, HP Photo Smart 320, that I'll have to check the net for.

Happy Birthday Candy ! , my mother-in-law, today; and Robin's gal, not trying to be flip ! or non-pc, yesterday 11-3.

Article: "To sleep, perchance to dream"

... A Google search of same.

Need fire wood.

               Dreams...

       Sometimes I fly

       in my dreams

       in places familiar

       Othertimes I'm hiding

       or running, but...

       I'm not "me"

       Elsewhen I'm falling,

       the feeling of

       vertigo too apparent

       'times recurrently trapped...

       failing or frustrated in

       iterative unurbane toil

       Some whimsical dreams

       where I'll wake

       with the giggles

       And pleasurable dreams

       the ardour most

       ardour and ardour
